Cork is the bark of the cork oak tree (Quercus suber L.). A noble tree with extraordinary regenerative abilities that grows across the Mediterranean. Portugal is home to over 720,000 hectares of cork forests and one of the world’s most important cork industries.
This remarkable tree can live 150 to 200 years, even though its bark is carefully harvested up to 16 times in its lifetime, every nine years.
