Alcoutim , a village nestled on the hillside invites you to serenity, away from the hustle and bustle of the coast, with a stunning view over the border river, the Guadiana and the village of Sanlucar de Guadiana, Spanish side. Several statues remind us that Alcoutim was, until the mid-20th century, one of the main places for cross-border smuggling.
The 4km ride begins with a trail that captures beautiful views of the river with its gentle curves and calming landscapes. We can stop here and there and watch the sailboats glide over the water.
You will reach the remains of the medieval castle from the Moorish era ( Castelo Velho ), where we can admire a 360° view over the valley. We will continue our stroll peacefully discovering wonders such as a freshwater beach, ideal for cooling off, windmills, a tile fresco that retraces Portuguese culture. Back in the village, you will have the opportunity to visit Alcoutim castle, its garden and its archaeological museum featuring beautiful pieces, including a collection of ancient games.
You can have lunch in one of the city’s restaurants, or, if you prefer, stroll here and there!
In the afternoon, relax along the water for a 45-minute boat ride to discover and admire the incredible beauty of this region. Guaranteed relaxation time!
